- Plastics piping systems for water supply, and for drainage and sewerage under pressure –
- Polyethylene pipes & fittings for transport of natural gas and suitable manufactured gas
- Understand the importance of safety procedures and protocols in both Butt Fusion and Electrofusion welding
- Develop the skills and confidence to perform high-quality welds using both Butt Fusion and Electrofusion techniques
Course Benefits
By completing our Butt Fusion and Electrofusion welding training course, participants can expect to gain a range of benefits that will enhance their skills and performance in the workplace. These benefits include improved welding skills and knowledge in both Butt Fusion and Electrofusion techniques, as well as increased confidence and competence in performing high-quality welds using both techniques.
Additionally, participants will develop enhanced safety awareness and protocols, which will enable them to work more safely and effectively. They will also gain the ability to troubleshoot and repair common welding issues in both techniques, which will reduce downtime and improve overall efficiency. Overall, our training course will help participants to improve their efficiency and productivity in welding operations, enabling them to work more effectively and achieve better results.
Butt Fusion is a common method for joining HDPE Pipe, especially larger lengths. To do this, a Butt Welding machine is used to hold, face, and heat the two pipe ends, before pressing them together hydraulically and holding them in place until the join cools, welding the two ends together.
Our Butt Weld course explores the methods, materials and applications of Butt Welding polyethylene pipes and fittings, materials and composition, applications and pressure ratings to using a variety of equipment- manual or automatic with varying methods. It is valid for industrial use both in the field and in factory conditions.
Course Benefits:
- Learn to identify relevant materials required for welding and installation
- Learn how to calculate the appropriate welding parameters to be used
- Learn how to best maintain and calibrate welding equipment
- Learn to perform a solid weld using the butt-welding technique
- Learn to assess the quality of welded joints
- Receive a pdf for a weld record, machinery service and calibration record sheets
- Receive an easy reference Welding Manual
- Learn in small groups, allowing quality and focused training
Electrofusion is a method of joining HDPE and other plastic pipes using special fittings that have built-in electric heating elements which are used to weld the joint together.
The pipes to be joined are peeled and cleaned, inserted into the electrofusion fitting and a voltage (typically 40V) is applied for a fixed time depending on the fitting in use. The in-built heater coils then melt the inside of the fitting and the outside of the pipe wall, which weld together producing a very strong homogeneous joint. The assembly is then left to cool for a specified time.
Electrofusion welding is beneficial because it does not require the operator to use dangerous or sophisticated equipment. After some preparation, the Electrofusion Welder will guide the operator through the steps to take. Welding heat and time is dependant on the type and size of the fitting. All Electrofusion Fittings are not created equal – precise positioning of the energising coils of wire in each fitting ensures uniform melting for a strong joint and the minimisation of welding and cooling time.
The operator must be qualified according to the local and national laws. Electrofusion welding training focuses on the importance of accurately fusing EF fittings. Looking at both manual and automatic fittings you will learn the importance of preparation, timing, temperature, pressure and cooldown.
